Robot Crickets

Bringing back the book! Book excitement that's not connected to vampires or wizards!

This the collection of essays and anecdotes about a broken femur. It may seem thin, but the experience of reading it is almost like reliving it. See the evening chat that serves as inspiration for a bike ride. See the ride, the chain malfunction, the unsuspected breaking of a femur. Ignore the dope fiend in the emergency room. Go under the knife for the first time, and, later, relearn how to walk. A whole myriad collection of life experiences coming in a rushed blur of sweat and crutches.

Also included is a morphine vision that's masked as "short fiction". Watch as an hospital's inefficiencies are laid bare by a meat ball.

This is the "hammer and cricket" cover.

Without the backing of a major publishing house, the cost of the book is higher than originally desired. It is, though, for a cause of sorts, as proceeds of the book will be ultimately put towards medical bills.

That makes the book a fundraiser.

Costs are $14.99 at Lulu.com and $19.99 at Amazon.com (plus shipping). Here's a direct link to "purchase" page.

While I'm at it, if anyone's interested, I've also produced a photobook about the '08 election and Bed-Stuy, the neighborhood in Brooklyn where I lived at that time.

All included photographs were taken by me and all included essays and captions were composed by me. This has a built in audience, as well as a built in set of detractors. Direct inquiries to barryinthehood(at)gmail(dot)com.
