Today is the first day of the month of March, which is named for Mars, the Roman god of war. Historically March was the first month of the year. As the beginning of spring, March logically made sense as the beginning of the year for the ancients.
Here is a picture I took five years ago to the day. The sun proved too powerful for my old digital camera, and turns out as a black dot. The camera still works today.
This was taken right at dusk, facing, um, the sun, and the pier out at Avila Beach.
Happy March 1st Paddy!!!
